Straw Bale House

Stone Ridge, NY

This new single-family home got its design genesis from the intent to rebuild a recycled circa 1820 antique hand-hewn timber frame structure. A field stone foundation veneer supports an exterior wall assembly made from locally sourced oat straw. The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and an active PV solar system, sized sufficiently to provide 100% of the annual electric consumption.
